Study Tips For Conversational English To Tagalog Speakers

By Tammie Caldwell

Learning another language allows them to interact better with more people and to project their professionalism and level of education. Studying conversational English to Tagalog Speakers is now becoming more and more popular for Filipinos who aim to move up in their career, finances and their lives. It is great that most Filipinos can speak and understand the language because it is being taught to students even during grade school. Many of the locals still need to polish their skills though and here are some tips.

Reading grammar books is perhaps the oldest way to learn the language. These are available from school libraries and bookstores everywhere. People who would like to study the technicalities of sentence construction and subject-verb agreement may refer to grammar books as their guide. Studying these materials may be done anywhere, especially that many of the references are now available as electronic books, which may be saved on their phones and other handheld devices.

People who do not have much time to study printed materials may opt to listen to audio recordings. Initially, they will be asked to repeat simple phrases. As they progress, questions will be asked, in which they will need to provide as customized answer based on what they learned. This is usually done by people whose only time for studying is during driving or commuting to work.

Watching films may also be used as a way to learn a new language. If the learner is not interacting with a native speaker yet, this will expose him to the use of the phrases in the cultural context of the movie. A movie with subtitles is even better since words can be read and will be understood better by the learner. This becomes both a learning and an entertaining experience.

A pocket dictionary is also helpful for a learner who would like to communicate with locals, yet they do not possess enough language skills yet. This will be like their stash of weapons in case they would like to express themselves and do not know the right word. Also, some native speakers will mention certain words, which the learner will have to look up in the dictionary. It is great if the person spends on a Filipino-English dictionary. As he becomes a better speaker, he may need to invest in a more comprehensive dictionary.

It has been said that one of the best ways to learn is through practice. One way to practice is to interact with other learners of the language. This way, people are less judgmental. Also, they get to share tips and references with one another. Certain groups have been created for this. Membership fee may just be minimal, or even free.

A tutor will help a person to learn especially if they find it hard to focus when studying alone. The teacher will direct the student and also set an example while learning. Interaction with a fluent speaker is also within reach of the student. This may just take several hours of study, which is also usually being billed per hour.

These various methods are not exclusive of one another, and may be used in combination as preferred. The only requirement is that the student remains diligent and continues to practice the language whenever applicable. In time, he will acquire this as a skill, which he will subconsciously use.
