Dallas Used Car Inspection Tips

By Patrick Roberts

It is very important to exercise caution when looking to buy any second hand vehicle. You need to make sure that this vehicle is not only running smoothly, but that its body is also in great condition. Apart from relying on the information provided by the AANT, you can also use this Dallas used car inspection checklist to inspect any vehicle you would like to purchase.

You should start by checking the condition of the body. Check whether it has any signs indicating rust or accident damage. You will need to look for paint bubbles, presence of loose panels and paint color variations.

You need to inspect the doors and the windows. Open each door and window to confirm whether it can open and close with ease. The windows should have all their seals intact. Confirm that all locks are working before moving on to the next item in your checklist.

A careful assessment of the paintwork is required. Walk around the vehicle to check whether there are any signs of over spraying. Over spraying is an indication that poor repair work may have been carried out on that vehicle.

When done assessing the body, you should proceed to inspect the engine and the other components found in the bonnet. Begin by establishing whether the VIN number is correct. Compare the VIN details with the information found in the vehicle registration certificate.

It will be important to verify the date that this vehicle was manufactured. Verification can be done by looking for the build and compliance dates. If they match, then it shows that the advertised manufactured date is correct.

The engine is the soul of your vehicle. If it is in poor condition, then it means that you can expect trouble from that car. You must therefore inspect the engine oil. If it happens to be grayish or milky in appearance, then it means that something is wrong with that engine.

Proceed to inspect the radiator. An inspection of the radiator will involve checking for corrosion or damage. Ensure that the radiator has not been damaged in any way. Before moving on, inspect the radiator coolant. If the radiator is working properly, the coolant should be bright colored with no dirt in it.

The lower part of a vehicle will usually tell you a lot about it. The lower part houses a very important component in any car; the exhaust system. You must start the engine when inspecting the exhaust system. Make sure that it is not producing too many fumes, and that it is not too loud.

An inspection is not complete without assessing the conditions of the vehicle tires. Inspect the tire treads and establish whether they have any sign of uneven wear. The presence of uneven wear and cracks often indicate an existing problem in the steering or the suspension. Remember to also inspect the engine and the brakes for oil leak signs.
