Tips On Answering Esthetician Test Questions

By April Briggs

Estheticians are required to pass a specific entry exam before being allowed to practice. It is set on certain areas to examine particular skills and knowledge. In order to correctly answer the esthetician test questions, it is important to understand what the test entails. There are different examinations for each jurisdiction.

A standard examination is administered to all estheticians in some states while in others the tests are clustered to reflect the skills demanded for each industry. In the former scenario, a nail care specialist will sit for a different examination from a hair care specialist. It is this understanding that will guide you on the areas to concentrate your study on. You are required to know the requirements in your area.

Examination centers also determine the requirements when sitting for the examination. Some provide all the equipment you will require to complete the test. Other centers require the candidates to come with their own equipment. Though it is expensive to purchase or hire own equipment, you will be familiar with them by the time you are tackling the exam. This means more speed and thus more time to handle the test better.

It is important to feel prepared when entering the exam center. Do not allow tension to overpower you and neither should you be stressed during revision. Take measures to avoid the nervousness that comes with tests so that you can give attention to the questions. Deep breaths and relaxation will improve your chances during the exam.

Since blood spill is a common incidence in esthetics, you are likely to encounter a question on it. The examiner may seek to know the right procedure in case a spill occurs. The choices you are supposed to arrange include bagging all contaminated blood and articles, treating the injured area with styptics, documentation of the incidence and keeping away the disinfected equipment in a safe container. There are other common procedures that you are likely to be tested on.

Another question may involve the definition of terms. An example is where you are asked to define a process like iontophoresis. Some of the options that may be provided include separation of a substance into positive and negative ions, an increase in elastin production through stimulation by an electrode, the transformation of sebum through chemical reaction or use of current to ensure hair removal. This means that you must have adequately studied all the areas likely to be covered by the exam.

Estheticians deal with different skin types on daily basis. It is therefore expected that a question will come from the area. It may require you to determine the kind of mask to be used if a client has oily skin. The choices given may include clay mask, peel mask, firming mask and moisture mask. Expect a question on skin care procedures and how to handle different types.

Customer handling is a crucial part of a successful esthetician career. You should always expect a question on handling clients at different times. A common question in this category is how to avoid contraindication issues with your clients. The options you are likely to find are discontinuing consultation in case of high blood pressure, keeping you consultation area organized and clean, having pre-printed questions and providing a comfortable salon. Since you can be asked to handle any question, you should prepare adequately before sitting for the paper.
