Finding Wholesale & Custom Organic Soap

By Carolyn Miller

Soap is a necessity for all of us. However, some soaps are truly luxury items. If you hold a hand-cut bar made with natural ingredients and scented with pure essential oils, you will know the difference. Wholesale & custom organic soap is available for those businesses that want to provide their clients or customers with the very best.

To buy wholesale - without the retail mark-up imposed by a store - you need to be in business for yourself. You need a tax identification number and a business license issued by your state or local government. This means that most products go to retailers who plan to resell them at a larger price, in order to make a profit. And, of course, to pay for rent on a storefront, electricity, and wages for the proprietor and/or employees. The cost of the product is one of the 'costs of doing business.'

Any business may be able to buy direct, as long as they can furnish the tax ID number. For example, the owners of a B&B can buy soaps and other goods they use for their guests directly from manufacturers. Even though they may not resell the item, they can count the purchase as a deductible expense. The same goes for hotels, motels, and restaurants that provide handsoap and towels for their patrons.

If a business wants to set itself apart, it may want 'private label' soaps for its guests. The manufacturer of the product simply uses a custom design for the wrapper of a bar that promotes the B&B or other service provider. In some cases, the maker might create a special kind of product especially for one customer; this product will be exclusive to the customer and available to no one else.

Soaps come in many styles, too. Bars are the most popular for bathing, but dispensers of liquid soaps are very popular for hand-washing basins. Now there are foaming cleansers, as well. Many manufacturers, whether large-scale or small home businesses, will be happy to work with those who want custom products.

The organic certification on body care products means at least 70% of the ingredients in a product come from organically grown sources. Of course, purists can buy 100% organic products if they choose their manufacturers carefully. Organically production means that no chemicals have been used at any time in raw materials or in the formula. This eliminates artificial colors, preservatives, and fragrances.

The best manufacturers take this label seriously, making sure that their oils are organically grown, and that the farms follow sustainable agricultural practices. Fair trade organizations also make sure that the ones who actually grown the ingredients are able to make a living from their crops. Since many oils used to make soaps come from third-world countries, this is important. It is also a good advertising claim for those who do have their own private label on the things they provide for their guests.

To find soaps that have no artificial ingredients, colors, or preservatives, go online and look for producers and also organizations that require fair trade practices from their members. Then see how you can save money, promote your business, and offer your customers the finest in body care.
