Jamaican black cake is a spiced gateau made of cherries, raisins, prunes and other fruits. It was originally made for Christmas but it is not a must for one to restrict themselves to enjoying it only during Christmas since nowadays cakes are bought during any event regardless of the season. To some extent, this is a fruitcake. Below are some of the health benefits that come with eating fruitcakes in general.

This way you will maintain calmness and sleep peacefully throughout the night.

In the past, people have thought of gateau as an unhealthy snack. This, however, is not true. Fruitcakes do give nutritional value by supplying sufficient fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Despite being dried, dried fruits have as much nutritional value as fresh fruits, maybe more. The dried fruits have condensed nutrients which make them up to 3.5 times more than the fresh fruits.

We all want to live a long healthy. This is done mainly done by eating healthy. A fruit gateau contains a mixture of dried up fruit. This means that the gateau is a good source of antioxidants. To be precise, the antioxidant that is commonly found is polyphenols. This antioxidant is known for reducing the risk of disease such as cancer.

Fruitcake allows you to keep your blood sugar level in check. One of the ingredients of the fruitcake are dried raisins. These have been known to have a low to medium glycemic index and a low insulin index. This assures you that your blood sugar levels will not shoot through the roof. Having cinnamon in the gateau also reduces the blood sugar level in the body.

You are protected from the risk of experiencing heart failure. This is due to the presence of rum in the gateau that prevents peripheral artery disease by blocking the hardening of the walls of the artery. It also affects cholesterol levels by raising the levels of the good protein which is known as high-density lipoprotein and dropping the levels of the bad protein known as low-density lipoprotein.

If you are having digestive symptoms, fruit gateau could actually relieve you. This is because of the nutmeg in the fruitcake. So if you feel some kind of stomach upset, the fruitcake should be able to relieve you. Nutmeg has been occasionally been used as a relief measure for the gastrointestinal system for centuries. People used to grate nutmeg into their soup as a precautionary measure.

What would be the point of being in good health if you are always grumpy? The gateau is known as a natural source of energy since the dried fruit has little to no fat. As long as you are energetic, you are bound to be in a good mood. This way you will feel and be a lot more pleasant.
