Learn How To Create Horse Hair Bracelets

There are a number of jewelry pieces that people wear that represent their sporting passions. Horse hair bracelets and necklaces are an ideal gift. You may not ride but love the animal and would like to own one of these unique bracelets in honor of them. Wearing the jewelry lets folks know that you have a love of the animal.

Folks who would like to make their own jewelry do not need to have any special skill. The only things you will need is the horse hair, carpet thread, and metal fasteners. The bracelets are easy to make and the only materials needed are a pliers, carpet thread, and glue. The process is quite simple but may require some practice.

The handmade jewelry make wonderful gifts for people who ride, own horses, or just admire them. The jewelry can also be purchase over the internet or in specialty shops. Searching online will result in a list of folks who create the bracelets for sale as a home business. You can also use the internet to find traditional stores that carry the item.

There are a few basic steps for making the jewelry. You will start by collecting the hair of a horses tail. If you can, gather some strands from several horses of various colors. You will be able to makes a braid with a contrasting color pattern. It does not matter how many horses you collect from you will need take enough to measure one inch in diameter.

Take strands from the base of the tail bone since you will need long strands. Use a rubber band to hold the strands together when you cut them. The next step is to wash the hairs one time. Make sure you do not use any conditioner after washing the strands. Once the strands have dried use carpet thread and wrap the cut end tightly. The carpet thread should match the strand color. Complete this step by using glue to hold the threads together.

Next, decide the kind of braid you would like to create. Round braids tend to work well for this kin of jewelry. For folks who have never braided there are a number of tutorial videos available online. The craft shops will have the accessories for making jewelry and embellishments to add if you like. You can also find the fasteners you will need to complete your piece in the craft store.

Before you begin to braid, place some of the glue inside the fastener then insert the tied end of the strands. Once you have inserted the strands squeeze the fastener shut with the pliers. Wrap some cloth around the metal fastener before using pliers to prevent scratching.

Before starting the braid make sure to securely tie the end of the hair to something sturdy. This helps keep the braid taut while you pull the strands when you braid. When you have finished the braid you will wrap the end with the carpet thread and glue to seal. This end is then inserted into the second fastener and squeezed shut with the pliers.
