Transmission Service Tips Provided By Salt Lake City UT Transmission Repair Shop Save Money

By Kurt Saniel

Repairing or replacing the transmission in a car is an expensive endeavor. There are things the average driver can do to maintain the one on his car. The major advice is to change the fluid regularly. Salt Lake City UT transmission repair says that doing that one thing is going to help you avoid a costly repair.

This fluid protects the car against the high temperatures and friction that occur when you run a motor vehicle. You only need to have it changed once a year if you drive less than fifteen thousand miles in that year. If you drive more than that, have it changed after fifteen-thousand miles.

Each time you use the car, warm up the engine prior to putting it in gear. When you drive you change gears frequently. Whenever you change to reverse or from reverse, wait until the car comes to a complete stop. Activate the emergency brake if you park on an incline.

A professional mechanic uses a device called the flusher to drain the old fluid before adding the new. You cannot do as thorough a job as the mechanic. Therefore, taking it in to the service shop for this function is best for your car.

You do not have to add to this fluid as you do with oil. If there is no leak, the level will stay the same until time for the change. Look to see if there is a leak when you check for an oil leak. If you have one, stop driving until you get it repaired. Otherwise, you can damage the transmission.

The manual version is different than the automatic. Driven a minimum number of miles it can be changed less frequently, up to sixty-thousand miles between changes. The automatic may never need to be changed. However, if a change is done, it will not cause any damage. There will be directions in your owners manual that comes with the car.
