Drivers Of The Growth Of Marine Transport

By Shirley Green

Despite the world becoming a global village there is still need to commute from one place to another. Business needs to exchange commodities to ensure the growth of the economy. There are different modes of transport that are the disposal. The preference of one over the other is based on their personal and economic needs. Marine transport has been in use since time and is still used. A couple of business uses this mode due to the benefits and advantages realized in its use.

This mode of transport is relatively affordable. Among the modes that charge the lowest prices for movement of goods from one location to another is water. The charges are relatively low despite the massive distance covered. Compared to other modes this one has the lowest. This favors the organization by cutting on total costs to increase the profits.

It is very safe to use. Unlike roads and air, it is very safe as there will be no time there are collisions or accidents with other vessels. The space for the movement is hugely free hence there is no congestion. Rarely will there be accidents concerning water vessels, this gives it a preference when transporting items from one location to the next.

More to this they are ideal for moving massive volumes of commodities. Most of the other modes carry an amount that is way too little compared to what sea vessels handle. They are massive as they have a wide and free area to move on hence there is a capacity to handle huge loads of commodities at ones.

More of an ability to handle mass they are eco-friendly. Ships and boats have the lowest level of pollution. They emit very minimal amounts of dangerous gases into the sea. To some extent where the wind is used to propel them, there is pollution at all. Moreover, their numbers are few hence pollution is limited.

Maintenance costs relating to this are meager and almost zero. The only costs that can be incurred are those that relate to the maintenance of landing docks. This reduces the expenditure by the governments and re-channeling of those costs to more constructive uses as the ways used by sea vessels are natural and require no maintenance or making.

The system can handle carriages that can carry commodities that require special specialized conditions. Some carriages can handle a mass of specialized commodities altogether without mixing them. This is because they have ample space needed for the containers including the equipment separate them. Being in a position to hold this makes it a choice for many especially those ferrying a variety of goods in mass.

In conclusion, a government can reap taxes and defense benefits from it. The sea provides a good defense for a country at the same time serving as a source of help whenever a country cannot defend its self-using land and air. Additionally, there are huge taxes from the import and export duties that are charged at the docks from trading activities.
