Choosing Your Namibia Safari Packages

By Iva Cannon

African tours are very popular and selecting the one that is best for you and your family may take extensive research before making a decision. There are a multitude of countries on the African continent to choose from and while some are set up to accommodate tourism others offer a chance to see the wilder side of African culture as it was seen decades ago. Namibia safari packages are reputed to offer the best of both of these options for their clients.

There are many areas worth visiting in this country. The topography covers a wide spectrum of regions that include mountains, plains, desert and miles of sandy coast line. Each of these areas could serve as a perfect destination but most companies offer groupings of three or more regions in their safaris. The large areas covered sometimes include air trips that can help cover the territory quickly.

The air trip to the Skeleton Coast is usually included in all tours. Visitors find miles of sandy beaches and can view beached ships that have washed ashore over time and the bleached bones of whales can be found here also. This coastal area is one of the most beautiful areas in Africa.

Other air tours will take you into the wilderness to view wildlife in their natural habitats. Some desert camps are best accessed by air although they can be reached by vehicle. This country offers an extensive network of very passable roads. Some visitors choose to self drive during their stay and park their vehicles at lodges while they participate in outside activities. Organizers provide them with maps, GPS and radios to help them arrive at their destinations.

You can choose to stay in a lodge while touring this country. They are large and offer many amenities usually found in hotels around the world. With swimming pools, shopping opportunities and several dining areas at your disposal touring can be pleasant for all concerned. Most of the lodges have activities for their guests to participate in including short safaris into the wilderness to view wildlife and scenic views. The cost of these excursions is usually included in the cost of any travel package.

Yet another means of experiencing this area is by traveling with a personal guide and staying in some of the many tent camps that are located throughout the country. The camps are reminiscent of safaris seen in old movies. There are rarely more than ten guest tents and meals are prepared many times over the open camp fire.

While in the wilderness many visitors take tours to areas that contain wildlife. Some tours are walking tours while others are traveled to in vehicles. Rhinos and elephants are common sights because the guides are able to track them for easier viewing. You may also see zebra, Oryx, kudu and giraffes. Big cats can be found but are not a common sight because they are considered elusive.

Whichever type of tour you select you may find that one trip is not enough time to thoroughly enjoy the wonders that this country offers to visitors from other parts of the world.
