Type Of Work Done By Horizontal Boring Machines

By Aisha Jacaruso

When asked, few will tell you what a horizontal boring machine is. They are not even aware of how it can be used in their stores. Doweling is the oldest method that everyone knows about. The purpose of horizontal boring machines is the same but they work uniquely.

As time progressed and new progresses we made in the furniture market, craftsmen thought of devising a new approach. That need led to the development of a horizontal boring machine which is the best machine you can use to improve the efficiency of your work.

At most instances, the mills have been designed in a way that they play the role of an adapter which connects the tool used for cutting to the spindle. This spindle in turn initiates power development and sets motion which stops when tools for cutting are positioned. A bar support operates in various capacities depending on the length of the bars needed to complete the process, Accessibility of bores and levels of finish stringency.

Two types of bars can be used here. They are the line bars and stub bars. Stab bars become mounted on the end of a spindle and become used when the holes are supposed to be closed to headstock. Regular bars can be used, but the operator inserts flat cutters. The setscrew of the next cutter is adjustable to your specification. Tools employed are either of one edge or of two edges and for both, the side bars are edged. For multiple cuts, add more cutters and arrange them to operate faster.

Boring fixture can be used to increase machine productivity. This is by supporting of work piece and ensuring the alignment is perfect before drilling starts. Any milling cutter can be employed for milling. End mills create grooves, holes and slots on materials been worked on. Facing cutters are used for finishes on the surface of flat materials. Caution should be taken in drilling of circular grooves. These devices come with durable working parts and rigidly done constructions which help in achievement of precision.

The three mostly applied instances are when doweling several thin boards together to form a wider panel to be used as a board for dressers, tables and other similar large furniture. To bring square legs to apron and exactly below the table top, each of the legs is joined on the two sides to that apron using dowels. To put stiles and rails of cabinet flush together, make use of a dowel that is able to connect the both edges.

You need to consider the power capability of the machine before buying it. Anything between three quarters to two HP is okay. The set table to do the work on should be large enough to support the work pieces. It should have a height adjustability allowance of three to four inches. This is for ease to center holes on both thick and thin work pieces edges. It should be able to be tilted to various angles and if in any case has a slot then the better.

A well sized fence is preferred because it is able to add stops that ensure the holes are placed in consistent manner when doing repetitive tasks on multiple pieces. A good quality boring machine offers you less spindle stroke of three inches.
