Cramming Five Hundred And Thirteen People Into A Semi-Truck In Mexico

By Cornelius Nunev

Mexican authorities recently found two semi-trucks packed with five hundred and thirteen illegal immigrants, bound for the American edge. Individuals were found with x-ray scanning equipment to be packed to the back of the trailers like animals in the Mexican state of Chiapas.

Human smuggling plan busted near Guatemalan border

In Chiapas, which is near the Guatemalan edge, Mexican cops found a human smuggling operation. There were checkpoints near Tuxtla Gutierrez that two semi-trucks were driving through. With x-ray equipment, reports MSNBC, they stumbled across hundreds of individuals in the trucks. Inside the trucks there were five hundred and thirteen people that were holding on to cargo ropes that had been strung while being hungry and dehydrated.

More than five different nations work of immigrants found

The individuals packed in the back of the trucks were from a number of nations. The majority of the individuals in the trucks were from Guatemala, but there were also 47 El Salvadorans, 32 Ecuadorans, six from Nepal, one from Japan, one from China and 12 from India. Much of the individuals were men. There were 4 kids and 32 women though. According to CNN, four smugglers were arrested as they tried to get away. The Mexican cops are responsible for what will happen with the human cargo though. The trucks only had air holes drilled to the top of the trailers, and the Chiapas attorney general claims the smugglers demanded $7,000 per person. The trucks were en route to Puebla, where the individuals would be transferred to different trucks headed for the United States. There were 219 migrants stumbled across in the same region in a truck. This was in January.

Getting to the U.S. through Mexico borders

Several illegal immigrants travel through Mexico to get to the United States. Mexican authorities connected with the case, according to the BBC, said that this was the biggest find in recent memory. Illegal immigrants often have to enlist the help of human smugglers, known as coyotes or coyotaje, who get them across the United States border for a fee. If there is an injury or abuse, migrants can't do anything about it. According to the Christian Science Monitor, there were 72 migrants killed by the Zetas narcotic cartel in August last year while between April and September last year, 10,000 were kidnapped.
