Makers Of Supercars Not Hurting Due To Gas Price Hike

By Cornelius Nunev

Gas costs have been increasing, and most customers are feeling the pinch. However, firms that make supercars have not really noticed. High performance green automobiles are becoming more available, but traditional high-end sports cars are still being made with complete disregard to the price at the pump. A person who can afford a Ferrari can still afford to fill it with fuel.

More than the Bugatti at McLaren

AutoWeek reports that the sports vehicle business McLaren is working on a car that will come out in 2014. McLaren plans on releasing the MP4-12C this year. It is known for producing the F1 which is the fastest automobile in the world. The next project for McLaren will be an as yet unnamed vehicle that will feature a 5-liter motor that will produce nearly 800 horsepower. The automobile is expected to cost $500,000 for any person that is interested. It should go 0 to 200 miles per hour faster than the Bugatti Veyron can with 2.8 seconds have to go from 0 to 60.

GM is a great place to look for work now

General Motors, according to CNN, is adding about 250 new jobs to the rolls in order to develop a new Corvette and investing almost $131 million in creating the new version of Chevrolet's sports car. The new Corvette probably will not be ready for release for a few years, but the new positions will open soon at the General Motors plant in Bowling Green, Ky., where the Corvette has been produced since 1981. Right now there is not a release date or information on the car has been released. Popular Mechanics states that Chevrolet is considering a new Camaro for 2012 with ZL1 Camaro as the name. The same 6.2L V-8 in the Cadillac CTS-V with over 550 horsepower will be put in the ZL1.

More than just a fast car

The environment isn't the top priority for auto vehicle makers for sure. Still, some of these auto makers want to help a little bit. In order to produce a "green" McLaren, the automaker is hoping to get some hybrid car engineers. The new 918 Spyder is a car sold by Porsche currently that is a plug-in hybrid that will top out at 199 miles an hour, drives three more miles than the plug-in Prius hybrid can on electric power alone and will go from 0 to 60 in 3.1 seconds, reports USA Today. It will even get 78 miles per gallon. According to the Daily Mail, Ferrari released last year a hybrid version of the 599. It hopes to, by 2015, have hybrid versions of all of its automobiles. The 599 HY-KERS is the name of the automobile that can get up to 25 miles per hour while going 200 miles in one hour of driving. It has the same V-12 motor too. By 2015, Lamborghini plans to have a hybrid out. It declared this in 2009, Popular Science reports. All the cars are going green now.
