Rachel Veitch, one of the country's eldest drivers, has been driving the same vehicle since 1964. But time changes all things, and a week ago, Veitch told the media that she has driven her last.
Over 500,000 miles
With over 576,000 miles clocked, Orlando, Fla.-resident Veitch could have driven to the moon, back again and then some in the 48-year-old Mercury Comet Caliente she calls "the Chariot." But at 93, her eyes are just not what they used to be. After running what she termed a "bald-faced red light" earlier this month, she has decided her days behind the wheel are done.

A couple of years ago, Veitch was in the media for having the Chariot at 559,000 miles. The vehicle lasted through three sets of shocks, eight mufflers, 18 batters and three husbands. She loved the vehicle. She appeared on the Tonight show with Leno at that time.
Veitch did not get hurt in the one and only accident her Chariot went through. It was a rear-end collision that happened in 1980.
Immaculately kept
The reason why the Chariot has been able to outlive so many other automobiles is because she took such good care of it since she bought the vehicle in the winter of 1964 for $3,289. It has been kept in good condition with complete records of all the maintenance.
Chariot future
Veitch is happy about putting the brand new vehicle aside, although it is unknown where it will go from here:
Veitch is going to let the car be in a car show in July and then will ask for an offer from Leno.
