1. Go to South America's First Railway Station
Amazingly Asuncion is where South America's first train station was. Over time, it was not needed and is now only used as a museum. There are no trains departing anymore but you can climb inside one and reminisce. It's worth visiting this museum!
2. Slums and Argentina
From Asuncion you can look across at Argentina. Or even better you can cross the border or get a boat trip on the river. Paraguay also borders Bolivia and Brazil but with Asuncion it's just Argentina and really worth checking out. You can get buses into Argentina as well if need be plus there's the area of the slums which is cool to look at.
3. Visit the National Football Stadium.
As a keen football fan it's a great idea to check out the football stadium in every city you visit. Paraguay's national stadium is in Asuncion and is called Estadio Defensores del Chaco. It's really worth a trip out to. This is a small country which has punched above its weight and even reached the World Cup Quarter Finals a few times. The stadium is easily reached by bus and is very big.
4. Plaza de Los Heroes and Buildings
Paraguay has a lot of soldiers and army and also some political history. Heroes Square is worth a visit to get your fill of this. It's a massive monument to remember those who died in the war.
After checking out the Heroes Square and monuments don't forget that Asuncion has lots of other cool old buildings to check out including Churches, a Palace, a Cathedral and old style skyscrapers.

Asuncion is relaxed and a totally amazing spot for some beers and drinks at night. You will be surprised at how many cool bars and pubs there are in and around the streets. Some bars even brew their own beer and live music is often played. Asuncion at night is a fantastic place to party.
