The word alone may cause you to scratch your head in wonder. This fruit is just coming onto the market. It is not very common, and until now has rarely been seen outside of the tropics. The reason for this is due to the plants requirements for warm temperatures, fertile ground, and large amounts of water. It produces fruit that is composed of lemon yellow cratered skin, is small, and is made of light creamy skin that encompasses black seeds.

Many people do not eat this fruit raw for one reason, it is extreme in taste. Lilikoi is the perfect example of two extremes living side by side as it is very tart and will make your lips pucker while being equally as sweet at the same time. There are some daring souls who will eat this fruit raw, but most people enjoy it cooked in desserts or made into a condiment.

What many do not expect is the health benefits of eating lilikoi. It provides individuals with nearly half of the daily recommendation of vitamin C, and twenty five percent of vitamin A. As an added benefit, this fruit packs in ten grams of soluble fiber. This is a healthy addition to most dessert recipes. Due to a high sugar content, the fruit is ideal for jelly making.

There are many great ways to incorporate this jelly into your daily diet. It can be used in sandwiches, experimented with in recipes, or simply be enjoyed straight out of the jar. Here are just a couple ideas.

Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are a popular staple in any diet. However, after a while you and your family may find yourselves tiring of traditional flavors such as blueberry or strawberry.
